The Tower of Druaga: Dawn of legal anime downloading
BOST TV and CRUNCHY ROLL have available the first episode of Gonzo´s The Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk for download and streaming.
This is the first time an official anime studio endorses a website to allow users to view an anime series online, and in the same day as its original broadcasting in Japan. The episodes are also available to view on YOUTUBE. The episode is subtitled in english and I must say they did a terrific job in the translation department.
According to ANN, this is the synopsis for the series:
The Summer of “Anu”: In a summer once every five years, demons in the mysterious Tower of Druaga lose their powers due to the magic spell cast by a god named “Anu”. King Gilgamesh, ruler of the kingdom Uruk, uses the appearance of demons as an excuse to invade the tower and find out the construct’s secrets. As 80 years passed, the Uruk army managed to fight back the demons and built a fortress city and safe haven on the very first floor of Druaga – Metz Kier. Thus begins the story of a warrior named Gil who, finding companions along the way, embarks on a quest for the fabled Blue Crystal Rod, a powerful artifact rumored to be in the highest floor of Druaga. However, other competitors, including the kingdom of Uruk itself, want the treasure, all for their own reasons.
Impressions:
I never thought this day will come but it is quite exciting to see that finally Anime Studios see the value of the internet for legal distribution of their series and getting into new markets like foreign countries. Technology, fansubbers and the Internet made this possible. I can see this as a new approach for the anime fans. Many people in the past, including myself complained that official releases in english took too much time to get there and so, the fansubbers did the job to help anime fans like me, to watch the latest releases from Japan. Anime Studios saw the fansubbers as illegal elements that were hurting their sales. Same thing happened with the music industry, and now We have the Ipods and Itunes. There is a new model for marketing and the anime studios have saw the potential at last. Gonzo saw this opportunity and made their move, and I think it is in the right direction. I hope they succeed because thats what We need. Everyone, the fans and the industry shall be winners with this move.
I will not blog this series because everyone can watch it now, thanks to Gonzo and their strategy. You can watch this series in YOUTUBE, BOST, or CRUNCHY ROLL for only a couple of dollars. I bought it for 2 dollars and I can proudly say that I am part of the solution now. Lets hope the series is good. The first episode was good so thats a good sign. Lets hope HARUHI SEASON 2 gets a similar treatment.
