Ar Figure: Hand Made Meido?

Technology never cease to amaze me and it is always at the service of Humanity…and Otakus! Do you remember Hand Maid Mai…that anime from 2000? It is a story about a hand sized 1/6th scale cyberdoll and her master!

Let`s look now 8 years later. Presenting the AR-FIGURE, I think this is the closest thing to HMM. I would not be surprised if the anime inspired this. AR means Augmented Reality and this description really suits this piece of software. She was released around October 19, 2008.

Her name is ARis (Alice)! It is a virtual “meido” and you can actually interact with her. Using the special cube, stick, and web camera, She will appear and move around in the monitor of your PC.

When you touch her using AR Stick, she shows various reactions. You can also change her clothes and give her some presents. Remember that She is not a physical meido but a virtual one and you need the webcam to interact with ARis.

Finally you can buy this Meido in a box for about USD$125.00 and requires a fast computer to use it. If you are interested, you can visit the official website or buy it online as well…But be warned, there have been some complains about the performance of the product:

However many users that bought the package now complain about how it can take 100% CPU even on high end PCs, freezes or bluescreens on some others, or just wouldn’t run at all.

But that did not hurt them much because all 3000 copies from the first shipment sold out in two days despite costing 9,800 yen.

Some people could find this sick or disturbing  I look at it as a cool piece of technology that can be used for other great purposes making the future more interesting.

Probably in a few decades or less, We could see a Hand Maid Mai after all.
