Thundercats Movie: An epic fan made trailer

We heard in 2007 that Warner Bros. bought the rights  to do a ThunderCats movie and they were planning to do it in complete CGI.

It is 2009 and yet no updates about the development of the movie. According to some reports, the movie is schedule for a 2010 release. I am sure many fans, including myself would have preferred a live action movie instead.  WormyTV, a graphic designer made a fan made trailer to prove the point. The job he did on this trailer is really amazing. He basically took every single frame from different movies and retouch them with several graphic and video editing. He even did some makeup on the actors to make them look like the characters of ThunderCats.

Thundercats live action trailer using Hollywood actors Brad Pitt, Vin Diesel and Hugh Jackman among others. All the effects were done frame by frame in Photoshop. The footage was edited in Adobe Premiere. Special thanks to XY3D.com for the producing the 3D animated thundercats emblem. This took me about a year and a half on and off.

Thundercats is a really cool series that defined the 80´s. The animation was provided by Pacific Animation Corporation, the working name for a collective of Japanese studios prominently including Topcraft, a group who would later go on to form Studio Ghibli. As you can see, it was really ahead of its time and a clear key for the success of the series.  If you are not familiar with ThunderCats, the DVD´s are available as well.

I think it is late for Warner Bros. to change their mind and do a Live Action movie instead of CGI. The thing that remains is wait for the movie…but this fan made trailer showed how good it could have been instead.
