Figure Review: 1/4 Saber!
Saber, one of the servants in Fate / Stay Night is a favorite among many anime fans and companies that makes anime figures. She is really popular. The figure that I am going to review originally appeared in Wonder Festival Winter edition 2008 (WHF Ariake 18). The figure was done by Sculptor Toushirou of circle Cobra-Kai

The event was around May 2008. It was expected to see any japanese company like Yamato or Daiki Kougyou to do a PVC version of this magnificent rendition of Saber. Unfortunately, 9 months later, there still no interest on taking the plunge to make this figure from Japanese companies. Taking that in mind, E2046 took the initiative and offered this 1/4 figure (She is really huge!)

It was a nice day so I decided to take some photographs of Saber so you can enjoy the view and let me know what you think about this.
Here is my review of the figure:
1/4 E2046 Saber
The Good:
The product was really well packed. Thanks to that and the “Fragile” sticker, the figure got safe into my hands. The box was really neat, black with the Gathering logo and everything…and it was huge. Every single item from Saber was wrapped in plastic bags and lots of foam inside….Saber looks good in here, with all her details and again, the size is a big plus, very impressive. Every single part of her dress has magnets so the dresssing of Saber was really neat and all parts fitted well. It was like solving a puzzle…Entertaining.
In any anime convention, I can be sure She will attract a lot of attention. I liked the color of her eyes and her face. She has that expression that can sure says “Get me”
She comes with two swords! The Bad:
Unfortunately, there are some negative points about the figure. Nothing is perfect but I am sure E2046 could fix this. First of all, when I opened the box, I could smell fresh paint and it seems the paint was still fresh when I opened it.It took me about 30 – 45 minutes minutes to place all the dress parts properly. Did I mentioned it was like a puzzle right? I think E2046 could have place an instruction manual or something.
Remember when I mentioned that the paint was still fresh, it was. After I dressed her and then undressed her again, there were blue paint all over her body. It was really awful. Lucky that someone had the same problem and customer support at E2046 provided a nice tip. Using an eraser, you could take out “most” of the blue lines, but there are still some of them that I think it could damage the paint if I use too much force in it. Any tip on this?
Her blue pants? I would have preferred them white instead. Due to friction with the other parts, some of the paiting went off, and now there are some “white” lines on her. My suggestion, paint the pants white. (I think someone else suggested it)
I liked the skin tones, but the skin color looks pale.I have some other Saber figures and it seems it follows a trend of making her pale. I think the skin color can be improved.
The base of the figure, the circle with some yellow markings on it. I think the original design for the circle where Saber came out the first time in the game was better than the “yellow” design that was used for it.
Another thing, but it is not E2046 fault. She dont look like Saber at all and it does not follows the character designs strictly. This is some sort of reimagineering and not a duplicate of Type Moon′s original design of Saber. However the good thing is that her face looks really sexy so I dont mind it at all.

The UGLY:
During the unpacking of her head, I noticed a missing paint chip on her head. Terrible indeed. I unpacked her so carefully so I believe this happened when the final product was packed before shipment. It was the first thing I took from the box and saw this.I think thats it. I tried to be very objective about this. Of course there were some negative aspects of the figure but I think the size, the sexyness aspect of it and also the character design of Saber can cover those negative aspects. It was a good buy, not great, but I hope E2046 can improve that in the future.
Hope you enjoyed this review. I give this figure a 4 of 5 because even with the high price, it still had some flaws. However, I must admit it…I enjoy this figure and hope a Japanese company can do a PVC version of it. I am sure I will be there on line for her.

I swear, I don’t think I’ve seen more than like 2 sabers that have spot on face design. Kinda odd that it would be so hard with that number of figures =/

no cast off pictures? You complain about her having lines on her body but you didn’t show them at all. Also if there is too much paint rubbing off on her take some paint thinner to the part that touches her skin. parts that don’t really show, and remove the paint there, no paint means no paint transfer.

I think you missed out the link to toggle visibility for adult content…it is up there…
I should tryout what you meant about the thinner, but right now, the paint is already dry so it dont affect the body anymore…

oh just found it! yay cast off! it should still help because even if the paint is dry it’ll end up rubbing off on her skin if you play cast off a few times. You’ll learn that with cast off figures you need to do this often even with PVC figures as they paint all the parts and the paint tends to rub off on the skin…

Hmm, not bad. I’ve got mixed feelings about her face, but I can think of it as “alternative” instead of “wrong”. It looks a bit weird, but I do like the really “athletic” feel of her body. Almost certainly disproportionate, too skinny to hold a big sword like that, and exaggerated. At the same time, it’s taut, lean and powerful; a good nude as opposed to being porn-y.

1/4?Nice!
Im sorry to hear that she came with some flaws…My Gathering Kit smelled of fresh paint aswell but i didnt have any problems with paint transition like you did.
The Design might not really follow the original Saber Design but you knew that beforehand and in my opinion its nice to see other artists interpretations of popular character designs.
You sure have some guts top take those castoff pictures in public ^_^

Even though I buy a lot of Gathering figures from E2046, I find it difficult for me to embrace this particular version of Saber >.> For some reason, it just look strange to me, a bit more western sculpture influence perhaps?

Probably…the original sculpture was made by Sculptor Toushirou of circle Cobra-Kai. I think the original japanese sculpt looks way better. You can find some pictures in Heisei Democracy…Wish there is a official release, on PVC or cold cast perhaps?…

Every once in a while, a gathering or two just don’t make the cut… I checked out the pics in Heisei Democracy,, too dark to make out the facial features but let’s just say this saber isn’t in my cup of tea.
