Dragon Ball Evolution is coming to theaters in a few days. Meanwhile, We had the chance of getting an interview with one of the cast members of the movie. Actor Luis Arrieta, better known as Weaver in Dragon Ball Evolution answered some questions asked by our readers and Cartoon Leap´s staff. Here is the full interview and details on Luis Arrieta´s role in the movie.
ABOUT DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION & “WEAVER”
• Luis was able to create the wonderful character of “Weaver” in the film Dragonball Evolution.
• Luis was not a fan of Dragonball before starting the film, so he studied all the information he could find on the phenomenon, and now he has become a fan.
• In Dragonball, Luis’ character “Weaver” is a nerdy guy, who thinks he knows absolutely everything and his classmates do not like him much.
• Luis says what he loves about his character, is that he was a nerd in his youth so he was able to identify with him some. He says he loved that he was able to change his look for the role, dying his hair yellow [not blonde, it is bright yellow.]
THE INTERVIEW
1. What made you interested in doing this movie?
As an actor it is a lot of fun to be in movies that are not that realistic and deal more with fantasy or characters that have superpowers. You can travel with your imagination to incredible places.
2. How does working in the Mexican and American film industry differ?
The big difference is that in Mexico there is not a lot of money invested in movies, so the production is not as big as an American film. But other than that, is basically the same. People love doing movies and it is a lot of fun to make them. Just like in the states, some movies made in Mexico are really good, and some are not so good.
3. What were were some nerdy things you did when you were younger? What were your hobbies?
When I was growing up, in school during recess if some classmates didn’t understand something about the class I would teach them, specially math. My hobbies were playing tennis, going to see movies, and collecting things that I thought would be useful for something.
4. How did you feel meeting the other cast of the movie?
They where all very cool and easy going.
5. If you could be any Dragonball character what would it be?Any bad or evil character!
6. What is your favorite experience working on the movie?
Meeting James Wong.
7. Who is Weaver and how that role was added in the script despite the fact that in the Dragon Ball Anime, there is no such a character?
I am not sure how the character of Weaver was added, he is just a typical high school kid who is a know it all, he thinks he has all the answers!
8. Why was he necessary to add and does he actually suit the storyline like Rachel Dawes did for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight?
My character was a smaller role of the film, so it isn’t really comparable to a “Rachel” character like in The Dark Knight, however I think you need the smaller characters in the film, to give the story more reality and truth.
9. Now you are a new dragon ball fan… what you think about Dragonball Evolution’s plot, since it is totally different from the original plot?
I really liked the script when I read it. I’ve always been a fan of other stories [for example Batman] and I am always open to see how the characters and the plot changes through time. I think that gives the stories more life: they transform, they change, just like if they were alive.
10. Have you ever heard of the term Anime before? If so, what are your favorite anime series?
Yes. I really liked Super Campeones which I think in the USA was called Captain Tsubasa. It was about soccer.
11. What was your first thought when you were hired to work in Dragon Ball Evolution?
I was very very happy. For a Mexican actor to be in a movie like this doesn’t happen every day.
12. Have you ever met Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball´s creator?
I haven’t had the pleasure.
13. Have you visited Japan and what are your impressions if the answer is yes?
No, but is one of the places I want to visit in the future.
We want to thank Ms. Jordyn K Borczon, Mr. Luis Arrieta´s Publicist for arranging this interview with us and We wish Mr. Arrieta good luck in his acting career.

Interesting. I suppose I agree that minor characters are needed to round out a cast, but it wasn’t like Dragonball didn’t have its own score of minor characters to choose from. In any case, it’s pretty neat that you got to do this interview, :3
