Sayonara, Geocities!
Long before Cartoon Leap, there was a place where I met lots of friends and received hundred of visitors each month. The place was Geocities. I did quite a lot of websites about my favorite anime series and tried my best to update them every month. I got an unexpected surprise when I read via Ogiue Maniax that Yahoo is no longer keeping Geocities and decided to close it down.

Important Announcement
After careful consideration, Yahoo! has decided to close GeoCities later this year. You can continue enjoying your GeoCities service until then — we just wanted you to let you know about the closure as soon as possible. We’ll share more details this summer.
If you are curious about my old websites on Geocities, you can take a look at them as they are still there. Here are my old websites, just click the pictures to visit them. (I am not going to force you to type that long url, so dont worry!)
Nukunuku and Company, 1997
Devil Hunter Yohko and Company, 1997
Lina Inverse and company, 1998
Card Captor Sakura, 2000
It has been a long time since I visited or updated my websites at Geocities. I would love to know if any of our readers visited those websites before. It would be awesome to know. Also, Do you think I should keep a backup of those sites?
It brings me memories and it is a pity that Yahoo is going to close it. Of course, people now can get any free or cheap hosting with a domain name. Do you remember those ridiculous urls one had to type to access? Frankly, it was a good place to be. Geocities was one of THE places for anime otakus and We should pay our respects for the old home.

Aw, snap, really? I wonder what kind of circumstances this decision was based on. I never had a real site on Geocities, though I’ve had them on a handful of other oldschool, 90’s free webhosts like Homestead and FortuneCity, I believe it was. I would definitely make backups of those old sites though — it’s something I regret not having done with a few of mine.
WHHHHATT. I still use some really old Geosites for reference but mostly for nostalgia. Man, that sucks.
I think you should backup your sites.
They are part of internet history. I’m pretty sure I’ve been to the Slayers one before!
