Oricon recently conducted a survey to their online visitors. Due to recent events with Hollywood and Anime turned into Live Action Movies, the question was more than appropiate. It is simple. Which manga they would most like to see made into a live action film?
- Slam Dunk
- One Piece
- Kimi ni Todoke
- Bokura ga Ita
- Monster
- Gintama
- Ouran High School Host Club
- Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai
- Hagane no Renkinjutsushi Fullmetal Alchemist
- Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Oricon did the survey online and the demographics were 900 men and women in their teens, twenties and thirties, with 150 in each group, for a rounded multi-strata sample.

The only anime that Hollywood took from that list to develop a live action movie is “Monster” and that was around 4 years ago! and still in Development Hell. I can´t imagine any studio taking the rest, especially One Piece due to the length of the series. If you are interested to know what are my favorite animes that I would love to see in a live action format, visit this post I wrote sometime ago. I need to update that list.

Now, if you ask me about my choices from the Oricon List that I would love to see in the Live Action realm, I would choose Slam Dunk and Full Metal Alchemist…of course with a good cast and great screenplay…Otherwise, leave them alone.

I’m still waiting for that Monster. =(
The problem with the few of the series on the list, is that some of them wouldn’t really work in a live action setting. As much as I love Gintama, a lot of the humor wouldn’t translate well into a live action setting. Same with One Piece. Although having a movie in the same setting as these two would be pretty interesting.
All the shoujo on the list probably couldn’t be turned into a movie, but they would make good J-dramas. Kimi ni Todoke is already rumored to be turned into one.
Slam Dunk and Monster are probably the most reasonable candidates. Fullmetal Alchemist live action sounds cool, but I have no idea how they would make it.
