After the epic Haruhi second season, Sigh 4 – episode 23, I wondered about Kyon´s punch against Haruhi. It was a good thing that Itsuki managed to stop him, but many bloggers admits that They were hoping for the punch!…There are even scientific theories about the angle and kind of punch…A lot of talking this days!

I would have actually wanted Kyon to punch Haruhi in the face IF weren’t the world would reach doom right after that though, so I guess good thing Itsuki stop him.”

“This was another good episode, but I really wish Kyon had actually hit Haruhi. She really deserved it, and I would have loved to see her reaction and what would have happened to the world as a result.”

No hitting Haruhi would have been very bad for several reasons. The main one is that she trusts Kyon to support her in what she does, he if anything is the sensible brake upon her restless ways and she is the energy that is needed to get him away from his apathy to life in general.

Let’s face it he knows it but just doesn’t want to admit it. He would end up taking a responsible role in her life. And why is she so insistent about having Koisumi and Assahina kiss. Well because what she wants in that scene is for it to be her and Kyon. We have seen it throughout the series.

The first meeting to explore the city, she is not happy she doesn’t end up with Kyon. After endless eight, she wants to be at Kyon’s house, she tells him that she’s coming too and the expression on her face is that of “don’t leave me out of your life”. And she almost admits it in the filming by saying during the fight that she loves him.

If Kyon was to do anything it would have been to spin her around give her one swift smack on her bottom and take her into another room and have her explain herself about the comment about what would happen if people didn’t do what she told them to do.

This is a fun and amazing series and can only get better as the depth of their actions and friendships grows deeper.

I agree with you…Punching Haruhi would have been very bad indeed…a Bad End!
Besides, I think this episode is a turning point and probably, Haruhi will be less a jerk this time…Lets see how everything evolves from now on…:)

Thank you for your reply concerning “Punching Haruhi”. I have to admit as probably most viewers that during the first season we all kind of grasped what Haruhi could do but not to it’s full extent. It was fun and entertaining to watch how her antics played out as she drove poor Kyon crazy but the full danger behind what she can do is being shown here in this second season. Heaven forbid if the Mikura beam had been something like the “wave motion gun” from Starblazers. Even Nagato would have a problem with that.

As we come to the cultural festival with it’s great showing of Haruhi doing something positive for others (ENOZ) it does show a turning point for her, now if only Kyon would finally start to reinforce some positive comments on his part to her she would continue to grow. The scene from season one where she is under the tree wondering if she could have done better is one of the best animated because of it’s simplicity and that wonderful look on her face. The lady is right when she tells him to talk and not hold everything in. But as we all know by now, if he had we wouldn’t be enjoying season two.

One final comment, though this may seem to be of the wall since Mikura is from the future is there a possibility she is Kyon’s and Haruhi’s daughter? Why else break up a fight with the comment of “classified information”.

    Till next time. :)

So you’re basically saying that Kyon should have got sexual with her? LOL ;)

Lovely pics, ToonLeap. Particularly like the cosplaying one! :)

I find it hard to believe that Mikuru chan could be Kyon and Haruhi Daughter…That would be awesome and twisted at the same time…but it is an interesting theory that´s worth to explore.

    @Triple_R
Thanks for your comments. Yeah, She is famous cosplayer, Kipi…She did a lot of Haruhi cosplay in the past.

To Triple_R, No I don’t believe giving Haruhi a good smack on the bottom should be construed as being sexual in this particular circumstance. (Butt, pardon the pun I can agree how she might take it)…LOL.
The main reason for a smack on the rear is because of the way Kyon is raising his fist at her. It is never proper for a man to strike a woman with an upraised fist. Punching a girl in the face is punching your very soul as it shows you have lost total control. We know he says he is doing so to prevent her from being looked down by society and other things but a strike with a fist? That also brings to mind something else I have seen and that is in some animation they show a man striking down hard with his fist on the head of some girl who did something wrong. An example is from Kanon 2006 where Yuichi punches down on the head of Makoto. Sure she had done a stupid thing by turning his bath into a giant Miso soup bowl, but a punch on the head, that’s something we should not encourage.
A man’s hands are made for encouraging, guiding, protecting, and correcting the ones we love. Not harming them.
Other than that who is your favorite S.O.S. Brigade member and why?

Even though I was joking, I do think that there’s a pretty good chance Haruhi would perceive that as a sexual gesture. I just don’t think that one teenager/adult can do that to another teenager/adult, and have it come across with out any sexual overtones whatsoever. This is why I would discourage parents against using spanking (and probably corporeal punishment of any sort) once their children are in their teens.

I do know that you meant well with the idea, though, and I agree with your admirable take on how a man’s hands should be used. Incidentally, I was one of the people who voted against punching Haruhi, because she is a girl and cute. Vain, I know, but what can I say? LOL

Not every day do I encounter such refreshing chivalry (I mean the term in a good way) as yours, here on the internet. So kudos to you for that!

My favorite SOS Brigade member is Haruhi herself. For quite a few reasons.

I love her character design, and her bold dynamic personality is fun and entertaining. I also think that she can (at times) have a charming good side to herself (as we see in Live Alive), and that often even her bad moments simply come across as funny comedic villainy.

This episode is an exception, though. This really is Haruhi at her worse. But, thankfully, she’s usually a lot better than this, and more fun to behold. :)

Well, just a few minutes ago I said that Kyon should have punched Haruhi because she was a real ***** back then. Of course all your comments analysing this were right, a girl shouldn’t be punched at any rate (and that protects me as a girl, too!).

It’s just that Haruhi needs to be pushed back for a while and made to understand the consequences of what she says and does, because we all also admitt that she was the one on the wrong in the first place with her ludicrous acts, don’t we?

If I were in Kyon’s place I’d most likely slap her on the face, not being able to hold back, but not punch her, then I’d apologise and try talk her out about what she did and said wrong according to my personal point of view. Not that what I’d do is the right thing, but the shock she’d be through after that slap on the face might suffice to make her stop and stare for a moment, or that’s what I’d feel if I were in her shoes.

Actually I was in great shock watching Haruhi being so unreasonable, trying to achieve her goals maybe, but yet in such wrong an attempt. But I generally like her character in the series, she’s so cheerful and has set goals to help her move forward. She’ll just get better in time, as we saw on the first season.

    To Triple_R,
Thank You Triple_R for bringing up a very valid point, that was something I had not considered. You are one hundred percent correct on that. Thank you for your wisdom.
As for your favorite member yes I have to agree Haruhi does take top spot. I do want to see them push more of the relationship between her and Kyon, especially that one clip they would show in the first season of her riding the bicycle with him in the afternoon. (Kyon looks happy, but don’t tell him that).
And as for the wonderful Live Alive concert there is something hidden in that second song that she sings. The comment about going to the cinema with you, well Haruhi complains that in her past all the boys would call her and just go to the movies and that was that. Evidently I believe Kyon did the same thing once with her. (another time travel event).
Final thought, in the episode where they went to the island for a mock murder mystery to keep Haruhi occupied did she really see something along the shore line during the storm or did she create something? Maybe that would make for another interesting episode.

    To Luluchan92,
Love your image with your reply. :) Yes you are correct in that a quick slap on the face could have brought her back from her selfishness at that point. I know that in the animation Moonphase it is done about three times to the vampire girl Hazuki. I remember the first time I heard the sound as they did not show the smack being applied but it shocked me. Yes it does have an effect on the person it is done too (and I agree I really wouldn’t want to do that to anybody).
At least It is enjoyable to see in the end Haruhi working on her hair to make a ponytail. (Trying in her own way to make up for her attitude to Kyon). And equally satisfying to hear Kyon supporting her on her movie.
As for the future episodes who knows there may be some point in time where Kyon get’s to show Haruhi what her actions cause or that she can do them. Just what type of event that will be should be very interesting.

It’s sexist to say you can’t punch a girl. Haruhi was portrayed as being as good an athlete as anyone in her school. She can take a hit.

Sexist? No a woman being good in sports does not entitle her to be a candidate to be punched. (Unless it’s boxing, Karate, you get the picture). No women are to be respected, (even when they are wrong), (Yes they can be wrong)!
No Kyon’s anger is justified in that he want’s the Haruhi he knows not to go down the path of selfishness which she is clearly taking in this incident. He respects her, but he wants her to respect all the others in the S.O.S. Brigade as well.
You know I just finished watching that episode over again and another point comes to mind. Haruhi is frightened by what Kyon does, but in the same token she is surprised by what the others do and do not do. None of the other members try to take her side in this incident nor do they argue with Kyon. Koizumi justs restrains him but says nothing. This is positive in that it doesn’t add more fuel to the fire and gives Kyon a chance to calm down. Lastly Mikura’s remark about not fighting and classified information is the real turn off button. As I’ve stated before she is from the future but is she a product of Kyon and Haruhi’s relationship?
Besides all this talk of anger and such it would be bad for Kyon to fight Haruhi for this reason as well. “FALCON KICK”! Just ask the computer club. :)

Well, I wouldn’t say that you could never punch a girl… but it should only be in self-defense, imo. Fact is that guys typically have stronger upper bodies than girls, so if a close-to-normal guy hits a close-to-normal girl (Haruhi’s athletic, but she’s not downright muscular) the potential is there for it to leave some real severe damage.

Basically, I think that guys punching girls is about as acceptable as girls kneeing guys in the crotch… it should be something really rare, and just in self-defense. It’s not sexist to point out where guys and girls really are different (just like kneeing a girl in the crotch isn’t anywhere near as bad as kneeing a guy there).
