Japan’s Robot helps the elderly to stay fit!

In Japan, many fitness instructors could lost their jobs and be replaced with robots…but not in a short term luckily.

robofitA government research institute-led team has developed a robot that can demonstrate exercises to help elderly people strengthen their bodies and help ailing people with their rehabilitation.

The robot, “Taizo,” developed jointly by the Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, and other organizations, is approximately 70 centimeters tall and weighs about seven kilograms.

It performs 30 kinds of exercise — developed by Hitoshi Ota, an expert in rehabilitation — by moving its 20 joints. Ota says the exercise is effective in expanding the range of joint movement.

Taizo can also say such phrases as “Hello” and “Let’s do another exercise.”

The robot and accompanying instructor have proven popular on visits to five care facilities such as a home for the aged, and even those with senile dementia were seen to imitate the robot’s exercise moves.

Taizo is now priced at a hefty 800,000 yen, but its developers are trying to bring down the sticker price through reducing costs. General Robotics in Tsukuba, which participated in its development, intends to lease Taizo in a bid to spread the use of the robot.

Otakus also have their own instructor as well…

This is an obvious complete lie. Robots would never help the elderly. Everyone knows that they attack the elderly and use their medicine for feul:
