Cowboy Bebop Live Action Movie needs rewriting!

It has been a long time We read something about the Cowboy Bebop Live Action movie…until now.
“There’s a draft of the script, but the writer did such a great job [that] in order to make the movie, you would need half a billion dollars,” Reeves told MTV News during a press event for “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee,” his recent film with Robin Wright Penn.
The writer in question is likely Peter Craig, who previously spoke out about how “extremely faithful” his screenplay was to the original anime series. Craig reportedly met with the anime’s producers back in December and went home with a detailed letter regarding the adaptation.
However, Reeves indicated that the writer’s adherence to the galaxy-spanning adventure of the full entire series might prove a little daunting for production.
“So the studio went, ‘This movie is fantastic and it would cost half a billion dollars,” laughed Reeves, “so he’s doing a rewrite.”
As far as who’ll be appearing in the film, Reeves hinted that everyone from Spike to Ein could factor into the movie’s storyline.
“Everyone is in there,” said Reeves.
“The only challenge was to make a satisfying western narrative out of the kind of storytelling that happens,” he added. “There’s a great draft, so we’re just trying to pull it back a little bit now.”

Half a billion dollars for this? It must be a hell of a script. Lets hope the script gets better without sacrificing the spirit of Cowboy Bebop.

Bebop is about as truly western in storytelling sensibilities as it gets, so I don’t really get where the “challenge” is.
As far as a massive, budget blowing script, it sounds like they’re putting in real effort, but I don’t want them to just throw money at the thing and hope it sells. And I really want to know who’s going to be the music director. Yoko Kanno’s soundtrack was the soul of the anime.

I agree, they need to bring Yoko Kanno from Japan to do the music for this movie. (Get the SeatBelts back together!) If she’s not doing the music, it just won’t be the same. Her music made the anime what it was.

Amen to that. I love the show, and the music just really sets it apart. The combination of music and dialogue makes me feel like I’m watching something by Quentin Tarintino. I have faith in these guys though. I think they’ll pull through and make this a damn good movie, and the same with Ghost in the Shell. I think the reason why most live action remakes have been bad, is because the anime’s just weren’t meant to be in live action. Both of these will work very nicely I think. Cowboy Bebop should just turn into another James Bond style movie after movie series (sorry if this statement offends fans).

I dont see how they could have ended up like costing this much, if you think about it apart from landing and taking off the only sets you need are a dilipidated western town and a spaceship interior. The CGI should be background (ships, spaceports etc) not in your face.
I hope this “authentic” is not just a load of space dogfights and a couple of bar brawls SFX extravaganza, it should be subtle.

I guess the involvement of the original guys behind the Cowboy Bebop anime should be a good sign.

I think Reeves will make an awesome Spike. I can’t wait to see how this production progresses.

No. Spike has a strong, cool, jazzy personality…. Reeves is like a statue. I’m giving him the benifit of the doubt on this one, but I still think Reeves was a bad choice.

Transformer 2 had a 300 million dollar budget and it was literally THE WORST PILE OF **** I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! It was like watching a movie with no story line and blurred out action scenes. Actually it IS like that, no story, blurred out action scenes, waste of time. Let’s hope hollywood doesnt screw this one up!
