Featured Blog of the Week, Thanks, Anime Blips!
After the nice surprise We receive last weekend, We got another one. Anime Blips featured Cartoon Leap as Blog of the Week. We were interviewed by Robyn Lass, Editor of Anime Blips and gave us some interesting questions about the website. Here is the full article and the interview.
For anime fans there are a handful of news topics they want to read. Shows, of course, but there are also games, figures, movies, and manga. Cartoon Leap offers readers plenty of coverage in all of these areas and then some. Started by Charlie D. as an outlet for his personal passion for the genre and to post his own manga illustrations, the blog has grown into a valuable resource of anime related news and information.
Our featured blog of the week we asked Charlie, a resident of Panama, as well as Shirokiryuu (frequent guest blogger who lives in California) a few questions to get more insight into Cartoon Leap’s history. Check out their answers below and watch for new posts from this blog on our homepage all week.
AnimeBlips: How long have you been blogging?
Charlie: Cartoon Leap has been around for six years and had several transformations. Originally, it was a place for me to show my drawing skills and manga stories. I love to draw manga and have some samples and sketches for several stories I have in mind. Due to problems with the different software I had, at the end, I chose Wordpress and started blogging around March 2008. Since then, my manga stories were archived and I just used the website to blog different stories and news about anime, Japan and otaku stuff. I want to restart my manga and post it on my website, all together with the rest of the stories. It will take time, but I am sure it will work.
Shirokiryuu: About a year, but I’ve only been doing it on and off.
AnimeBlips: How long have you been and anime and manga fan? Have your preferences for shows or books changed?
Charlie: That’s a tough question. I am 37 years old and I am sure two-thirds of my life I have been an anime and manga fan…I had contact with anime in the ’70s with “Astroboy,” “Mazinger Z,” “Candy Candy,” “Minky Momo”… and the list is countless. My preferences had changed from time to time because we usually evolve. From “Magical Girls” to “Mecha,” the spirit of anime is there, unchanged … Great characters and appealing stories.
Shirokiryuu: I’ve been an anime/manga fan since elementary school when everyone was obsessed with “Pokemon.” So that’s about, hmm… eight or nine years? When I was in middle school I loved shonen shows. Now I watch a variety of shows depending on my mood. It really changes a lot!
AnimeBlips: What’s the best experience that’s come out of having your blog?
Charlie: There are many I can recall. One of the best experiences I had was interviewing one of the “Dragon Ball Evolution” movie cast members. It took me by surprise, really! There are many other recent events that I really enjoyed with our readers, like bashing “Haruhi´s Endless Eight” …I shared with the readers the rage, anger and silliness of that moment. It was great!
Another thing I enjoy is people discussing and commenting about the different stories I post. Meeting people and exchanging ideas…That’s what I believe, it is the best experience so far!
Shirokiryuu: Probably getting connected to other anime fans over the Internet.
AnimeBlips: What makes your site unique?
Charlie: I think we should ask our readers that same question because I believe they know better than me what makes Cartoon Leap special. The only thing I could say on behalf of the site is that we update every day with almost five to 10 post per day. I think that’s one of the main reasons why our readers like Cartoon Leap. Most of the stories we cover also deal with Japan. Many can find interesting and odd news about their culture in the website and I think that’s what our readers find appealing.
Shirokiryuu: Toonleap constantly puts out a massive amount of posts on the latest news and shows. It’s crazy. I don’t post that much, but Cartoon Leap is a great source for anime news, and unique news you don’t see posted anywhere else!
AnimeBlips: If you were stranded on a deserted island and could have only one anime or manga series would it be?
Charlie: Wow, that’s a tough question…If I am stranded in an island, I will probably ask for lots of paper, pencils and erasers. I will draw my own manga and I will never get bored…and if I want to share them, I will put them in bottles and throw them to the sea so people can read it.
Now, if you ask me what’s my favorite anime of all time that would be “Suzumiya Haruhi.” I will never get tired of watching it over and over…but, unfortunately, I think the “Endless Eight” saga ruined that feeling.
Shirokiryuu: Probably “Yotsuba&!” because it cheers me up every time. Or I might bring “Kochikame, “because there are so many volumes I can use them to make a bonfire or somethin’.

First …. congratulations Makie-san.
Second …. didn’t know that this blog was this high profile. At least judging from the number of visitors I see. No disrepect intended.
