Happy 2010!

25 years ago, I saw this movie. It was an awesome one involving humanity and events of epic proportions. The name of the movie is 2010, The year We make contact! At that time, I was only 12 years old, but the movie really impressed Me because of the effects and story. It was great.

We are now on New Years Eve…It is almost 2010…No spaceships with astronauts inside reaching Jupiter or epic events happening now. Still, I have hope that Humanity learned something from the last decade and now that We are beginning a new one, Lets wish everyone have a happy new year. It is strange that I mentioned this movie…maybe it is the title after all.

Once We reach 2012, I will post something similar…unless the events of the movie happens in reality…God saves us all if that happens!…

2010 have surprises and Thank God, those surprises will happen in the early months of the year, like Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi, Fate / Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works movie, Nanoha the 1st movie and who knows what other things…

…But 2010 is not only about Anime…It is about hope and best wishes for all of us. If you had something that you couldnt fulfill on 2009, you have a chance on this new year. 2010 movie has a nice and optimistic message for humanity…maybe, just maybe, this new year will be the same in a way….Think about it.

Happy New Year Minna!

An Endless Loop of DVDs!

2009 will forever be remembered in the anime community for one simple arc that created polar opposites of the anime fandom: Endless Eight. While the vast majority of people lashed out at the concept of Endless Eight right after the third episode, there are people out there that grew to like the arc. I am one of those people, so I decided to purchase the DVDs. With the release of Haruhi Volume 5.571428 last Friday (Christmas Day) in Japan, the set was completed.

As ToonLeap commented back in September, the first DVD comes with a post card holder and a box for the rest of the volumes seen here:

The goodies included with the first set of Endless Eight

The rest of the DVDs come with a “Mini Folder” that has art from the trip back from the Lone Island. Each DVD comes with a coaster and a post card set of both the normal and limited edition cover art. If you’re lucky, you can get a special coaster and/or a film bookmark. I was lucky enough to get two (of my favorite character Koizumi) but no special coaster.

DVD 1 1DVD 2DVD 3DVD 44

The red disc is the normal DVD included in every package while the bottom is a special DVD only in the limited edition. The normal DVD has the episodes, some commericals for the re-airing of the series, a piece where the staff tours the locations that they animate, and some clips of the making of the [Super Driver] PV with Aya Hirano.  On the first DVD, there is the Textless Opening and on the second DVD, there are commercials for the first DVD set.

The second disc contains the BGM for the series split over the discs with stills from that set’s episodes and some information overlaid. Not being able to read Japanese, I cannot provide any translation. Next is a feature where Minoru Shiraishi (Taniguchi’s seiyū) travels around Japan to various places. Finally he also voices over a scrapbook telling of the events that happened in the episode. On the second set, there is a prologue where Tomokazu Sugita (Kyon’s seiyū) narrates the prologue from the 5th novel (where Endless Eight is from) over the 3 images that appear on the clear files.

Limited Edition Menu #3

Overall, the set is quite nice for collectors. If you’re lucky enough to get the film bookmarks, they are an awesome inclusion to the series instead of stickers. I fell in love with the animation on the final two sets because they remind me of the high quality KyoAni put into the 2006 airing. The second set is the weakest I feel just because the other three are so well put together. If I had to only get one set, I’d get the final one not because it has the ending, but because I kept becoming impressed with the animation as well as the hilarious performance the VAs included for the final two episodes. Would I recommend this set if you could afford it; of course, but it’s not for everyone.  I’ve included many more pictures and screencaps from the episodes and special features at a special album located here for your viewing pleasure (and to save ToonLeap some bandwith).

Finally, on the last disc, Minoru Shiraishi discovers something we’d all like to see:

The storyboards for the Vanishment movie!!!

If you have any suggestions for improvements in the review, leave a comment and I’ll work hard to improve this style. I hope to review the Vanishment OST, Theme Song, Sigh DVDs, and maybe the ENOZ album if I have time next year, so your comments will help me improve.

Wendy’s Japan customers lining up for last meal!

December 31, 2009 by Toonleap

We read about Wendy’s leaving Japan and now it is the time. Hundreds of fans were there for a last chance to taste the little girl’s burger…

Customers line up to enter a Wendy’s restaurant in Shinjuku on Thursday, the last day of business for the hamburger chain’s 71 outlets in Japan. Zensho, which acquired the Wendy’s franchise in Japan from Daiei in 2002, ended its agreement with Wendy’s/Arby’s Group Inc in November. It decided not to renew its contract in order to concentrate on its other chains, which include the Sukiya chain of ‘‘gyudon’’ beef bowl restaurants. Wendy’s has been in Japan for 30 years.

Wendy’s closes its doors in Japan today after almost 30 years as queues spill onto the sidewalk at some of the hamburger chain’s 71 restaurants.

Wendy’s/Arby’s Group Inc., the third-largest U.S. fast-food restaurant company, was unable to renew a franchise agreement with Tokyo-based Zensho Co. this month. The Atlanta-based company hasn’t ruled out re-entering the world’s second-largest economy if it finds a suitable new partner.

Sales at fast-food restaurants grew 3.1 percent in Japan last year, bucking the 0.8 percent drop in the overall dining industry, according to market researcher Fuji Keizai Co. Consumers, facing bleaker job prospects and falling wages, are seeking budget options, spurring sales for the local chains of McDonald’s and KFC.

“Fast-food sales do well in tough times,” said Koichi Ogawa, chief portfolio manager at Daiwa SB Investments Ltd. in Tokyo. “People want to spend less on meals.”

Zensho said it decided not to renew the Wendy’s contract to concentrate on its other chains, which include the Sukiya beef- bowl brand.

“There is significant long-term potential for Wendy’s/Arby’s Group restaurants in Japan,” Andy Skehan, a senior vice president of the company’s international unit, said in a Dec. 10 statement. “We intend to pursue new development opportunities in the country with new franchisees or joint venture partners.”

Wendy’s, Japan’s seventh-largest burger chain, has been busy since the closure was announced Dec. 10, Zensho spokesman Naoki Fujita said, without providing sales data.

Final Chance

Miho Miyazawa, who works at a bookstore, was one of dozens of customers queuing this week for a final taste of a Wendy’s hamburger at the chain’s store in Tokyo’s Ginza district.

“It’s my last chance,” said Miyazawa, 29. “Wendy’s is my favorite because it tastes good.”

Wendy’s had sales of 6.2 billion yen ($67 million) for the year ended March 31 in Japan, accounting for 2 percent of Zensho’s sales of 310 billion yen.

The burger chain entered Japan in 1980 under an agreement with supermarket operator Daiei Inc. Zensho took over the franchise agreement in 2002.

McDonald’s Holdings Co. (Japan) and Kentucky Fried Chicken Japan Ltd. increased sales at stores open at least a year in eight of the past 11 months.

Burger King Holdings Inc., the second-biggest U.S. hamburger chain disappeared from Japan for six years before reopening in 2007 under an agreement with a venture between Lotte Co. and Revamp Corp.

Hayato Yoshida, a 25-year-old employee at an advertising company in Tokyo, will be ready if Wendy’s makes a similar return to Japan.

“If it’s going to open again, I will definitely go for chili cheese fries,” he said at the Ginza outlet.

It is good to know there are many Wendy’s fans in Japan…Maybe They will do something about it and returns someday.
