Namie Amuro and Amuro Ray connected in Gundam Music Video!

Popular singer Namie Amuro will join another famous “Amuro” in an upcoming music video…dedicated to Gundam!

J-pop singer Namie Amuro will release a new album on Wednesday, including a song whose video features herself and a main character from the popular TV anime series “Mobile Suit Gundam.”

In the animated video of the song “Defend Love,” included in the album “Past < Future,” Amuro faces off against the character — Gundam pilot Amuro Ray.

Sharing the same name, Amuro, who says she has always felt connected to Amuro Ray since her childhood, reportedly planned to “co-star” with the character to mark the 30th anniversary of the Gundam series. Creators of the anime series and leading Japanese animation studios spent two months to complete the music video.

The song “Defend Love” — made under the theme of “love (a world) that must be defended” — represents messages like, “We must not be exploited for war” and “Weapons must not be misused.”

The album will go on sale for 3,059 yen (3,990 yen with a DVD).
