How can something Vanish on the day it comes out?!

About 5 and a half hours ago, the first showings of “The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya” took place. Haruhism was out in full force today, even through rain, snow, and even the dead of night. At the Cinema Sunshine theatre in Tokyo where a cast/staff greeting took place after the showing, fans were lining up at midnight in Japan (8 hours before the first showing!). The line got to be over 500 people long! Article here for reference. So far every single review has been positive, even about the length. As one person said “The length was long, but the time just flew by.”  Here is a compilation of some (there were many more just like these) responses about the movie:

“Just as expected. Wonderful” (Running out of Ikebukuro)
“Such a long movie in a blink of an eye” Twitter account
“Just as expected. Music was great” (Ichikawa)
“Good work. Great satisfaction” (had read novel previously)
“More amazing than I expected”
“The character animation was strong. The whole thing moved slickly. Music was absolutely fantastic. I wanted the soundtrack. The film was like the newer episodes animation wise. The middle moved slowly. Nagato acted cutely.”
“Much better than I thought”
“The series will never get this high again” If that doesn’t say how well this movie was received, nothing else does.

And what’s a premiere without pictures and videos: (linked to my photobucket account since they were already there and to save ToonLeap some bandwidth)

I think it’s safe to say that Kadokawa made a great decision to make this novel into a movie. Now the long wait for fans overseas begins.

Argh the wait!… must…learn…Japanese language… then I could at least have read the books. I’ve discovered that waiting is the hardest part of being an anime fan. Good thing I have a lot of catching up to do with the older anime.

Thanks for the photos and info. It looks so exciting. Wish I could have been there! But with all those goods they were selling at the theater, I probably would have succumbed to spending too much =P I don’t think I would have waited for eight hours in the cold though (a few hours maybe).

Thanks for the info and pics! I totally would’ve killed to have been there. Minorin is my favorite singer/seiyuu and I’m hoping she could get more coverage thanks to Nagato playing the main role (pretty much) in this movie.

I cannot explain my feeling on this, and it is truly a feeling, but I believe that a DVD/Blu Ray release of the movie will be coming in August. It’s 6 months away, the typical timeframe for a movie to release, and it’ll correspond with the Endless Eight month.

Finally, some excellent material for Haruhi! The second season was actually not that bad, if you didn’t watch all the Endless Eight episodes, but now I’m really looking forward to seeing this film.

Thanks again for the pics + video links for the Haruhi event! You rock.
