Thousands of manga fans flocked to the funeral Monday of Japanese cartoonist Yoshito Usui, whose cheeky schoolboy character Shin-chan delighted millions.

More than 3,000 mourners queued to offer their last respects at central Tokyo’s Aoyama Funeral Hall, where pictures, stuffed dolls, comic books and videos of Usui’s characters were on display and decorated with flowers.

“Mr Usui unfortunately died, but the characters created by Mr Usui are still alive,” said fellow cartoonist Tetsuya Chiba, hailing the artist who created the hit “Crayon Shin-chan” series in the 1990s.

“It was very shocking to me when I heard of his death,” said one fan, Megumi Nagai, a 24-year-old female bartender. “The funeral was very valuable because I could see his works, all the comics, all the videos and the history.”

I was a little bit surprised to read this news about Himeka. Probably She sung this a lot of times but guess She got really nervous…

During the ANIMAX live concert held on November 22nd in Osaka, Himeka was singing “Asu eno Kizuna”, the OP song of Valkyrie Chronicles. Suddenly, she forgot the lyrics and quit the stage in the middle of the show.

Her official blog published an apology to her staff and fans for this behavior and promised that She won’t do that again. Well, She is still new in this business and We are sure her fans will understand.

October 28, 2009 was declared as International Animation Day…and it seems not many noticed it. Here is an small overview about the event…

iad_final_english_sig

In 2002, ASIFA, the International Animated Film Association, launched a global event to celebrate the art of animation. October 28th was proclaimed as International Animation Day (IAD), commemorating the first public performance of Emile Reynaud’s Optic Theatre in Paris in 1892.

Such a celebration is an outstanding opportunity to put the animated film in the limelight and make this art more accessible to the public.

Beyond the several national ASIFA national Chapters (more than 30 different countries) which celebrate International Animation Day, any cultural or educational structure can join this event by screening animated films, organizing workshops, exhibiting artwork and stills, providing technical demonstrations, helping to promote the art of animation…

ASIFA-Japan also decided to join this international art manifestation since 2005, and in 2009, They will be holding “International Animation Day 2009″ in two cities: TOKYO and HIROSHIMA. The next year, 2010, ASIFA will celebrate 50 years and We are pretty sure, there will be interesting things to come.

The only thing I can say now is…Happy International Animation Day!
