Higurashi Daybreak Portable for the PSP

Higurashi Daybreak portable was released a couple of days ago and I had the chance to play it.

It is a third person “shooter” game with 3D graphics. Considering that the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series is really popular among anime fans, this game promises to be a best seller.

The characters are “chibi” and considering the nature of the series, probably it suits the game. After all, everything in the series looks “innocent” at first.

What I love in every anime game is the opening, which shows that the game has a good production value and also it is an eye candy for the player. This game is no exception. The theme music is good and I like how the game characters are presented. Also the animation is just superb.

Game mechanics
It has 3 modes of gameplay, the story mode, the arcade mode and the network play. All characters are rendered on 3D.

Story Mode:

In a peaceful day like any other, a small box was dropped on Rika Furude’s head when she was sweeping in the Furude Shrine. In it was a pair of magatama, one red and one white.

The magatama are actually the sacred treasure of the Furude Shrine. With its magical powers, the holder of the red magatama would unconditionally fall for the holder of the white one. Upon testing its effects on the school faculty, the club members of a Hinamizawa school decided that they should duel each other to see which pair gets to keep the magatama. In the beginning it was only an afterschool club activity, but their game eventually engulfed all of Hinamizawa.

So basically, you have to duel your friends in order to get the magatama and in that way you will get the one you love. Depending of your character, there are different types of weapons, knifes, bats, etc.

The Arcade mode and the network play you dont follow the storyline. You just play freely against the computer on 2-on-2 duels or with a friend via adhoc up to four players. Basically it is a slaughter fest. All the characters you love are in this game and you can use them and their weapons as well.

I heard that this game is a port from the original PC game but with the PSP horsepower, you can find improved graphics, new storylines for Hanyū and Natsumi, new costumes and weapons, and a “shop” feature. I cant imagine what kind of things you can buy in there. I will have to check that out.

Finally, there are two editions for this game, the regular edition and the limited edition.  I think this are the items that comes with the limited one. Of course, it is a little bit more expensive.

If you like the Higurashi series, this is definitely a must buy…and even if you don´t know a thing about the series, I think it is a fun game where you can whack people´s head with a bat without actually hurting them…at least physically.

Cross Days: The Naked Truth?!

Overflow began taking reservations for the Cross Days game and it seems many of the stores reported that they got out of stock for it.

On the other hand, several ads are appearing on Point of Sale in which they show the naked truth about Cross Days: Drafts of ero scenes depicting the main girls doing their stuff, and it seems there are yuri elements as well.

Are this images, things to come for Cross Days game? Things are changing since the original School Days game. Are this changes good? Probably yes!

White Breath ~with faint hope~

White Breath ~with faint hope~ is a ero videogame / visual novel produced by creator FC02 /HQ /F&C (Illustration by hashimoto takashi) which is famous for popular series such as Pia Carrot, Can Can Bunny and much more. It was launched in 2004 for the PC and later, released for the PS2 with the title: White Breath ~Kizuna~ which means a kind of mental linkage between people. A PCDVD Vista compatible version was released on 2007, with improved graphics.

The game has full voices and the intro animation and song is nice. The theme of the game is simple. You are the guy and your life involves the fate of five different girls, each one with interesting personalities.

One interesting point about the game is that the main character (You) have an illness, and you must get the affection of that girl so she can be at your side when you are really ill, at the verge of dying. At the beginning of the game, you meet the girls, their situations and their personalities. You need to know each of the girls and organize an schedule for the day (morning, evening and night). The more you get involved with one girl, she will love you.

There is no much information in english about the game and it is a little bit obscure but it seems popular in Japan. Let´s see if an anime studio picks up the rights for a TV / OVA series.

My favorite girl is Mio Ichinose. Here is the description for her (My japanese reading is a little bit limited, so help from someone that can read and translated it is appreciated):

主人公のクラスメイト。
主人公とはケンカ友達でお互いに気を遣わずにすむ相手。
だが、家庭の事情により未緒が家を飛び出したことよって

I really like the character designs of the game and the backgrounds and voice acting are really nice. I invite you to check this game out. You need of course japanese knowledge to understand and enjoy it, but just for the character designs alone, I can recommend it.

Cross Days plot: Who will stab Makoto this time?

According to Tech Gian -December Issue- Niko Niko Doga and Akihablog, the main plot of Cross Days reveals that Makoto Itou is NOT the main character of the game…But let me assure something…SOMEONE is going to die!…The question probably is…

Here is the plot and the main players so far:

Yuki Ashikaga, who is a committee member of school library was asked what kind of lady he likes, and he founds out that Roka Kitsuregawa, who happened to walk by, is the dream girl of him. Since then, being pushed by her big sister, Chie, who is older and is in the same club with Roka. Yuki and Roka get to know each other and are attracted mutually.

But, misunderstandings about Yuki and his female friend arise and Roka got jealous. At the same time, Yuki believed a rumor about Roka liking Makoto Ito, who graduated at the same school with Roka, their love starts to fall apart. Yuki does not want to lose Roka to Makoto– From there, he starts to support Kotonoha Katsura, who is a girlfriend of Makoto and who comes to the school library all the time and…

So here it is…The plot is full of misunderstandings, drama, comedy and probably if you read the main ENGRISH slogan of the game: “Their fates can be changed by his effort. Though it cannot expect whether the result is happy”…there will be blood!….This is a NICE BOAT I want to ride!!!
