Gundam at Shizuoka received its 500,000th visitor…and got something!
The Shizuoka Gundam is receiving tons of visitors…but the 500,000th visitor received something special for being that magical number…Guess what He received?
The Shizuoka Hobby Fair, with its 18-meter-tall “life size” statue of the Gundam robot from a popular animation series, welcomed its 500,000th visitor Tuesday.
The visitor was Takeshi Masuno, 45, who visited the fair with his family on the 32nd day of the event. His sons — Yuki, 10, and Tomoya, 6 — received plastic models of Gundam and fighter planes as commemorative gifts.
“I came here to show the Gundam robot to my children as a memory of their summer break,” Masuno from Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture, said. “I was surprised (to become the 500,000th visitor).”
The event through March 27 next year is being held to mark the 30th anniversary of the first Gundam plastic model kit’s release.

J-pop singer Namie Amuro will release a new album on Wednesday, including a song whose video features herself and a main character from the popular TV anime series “Mobile Suit Gundam.”
In the animated video of the song “Defend Love,” included in the album “Past < Future,” Amuro faces off against the character — Gundam pilot Amuro Ray.
Sharing the same name, Amuro, who says she has always felt connected to Amuro Ray since her childhood, reportedly planned to “co-star” with the character to mark the 30th anniversary of the Gundam series. Creators of the anime series and leading Japanese animation studios spent two months to complete the music video.
The song “Defend Love” — made under the theme of “love (a world) that must be defended” — represents messages like, “We must not be exploited for war” and “Weapons must not be misused.”
The album will go on sale for 3,059 yen (3,990 yen with a DVD).
